Removing Adobe Acrobat’s PDF extension from Firefox
Something on my system automatically installs an Adobe Acrobat PDF extension into every new browser I load. This is a windows only extension so I don’t need it and it is not possible to remove it from within Firefox. Below are the instruction to remove it. I’m posting it here as I will inevitably need to do it again sometime and others may find it useful.
- Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/{select your profile}/extensions.json
- Open this file in a text editor (I used Atom)
- Search for “Acrobat”.
- Go to the first entry and select everything within the brackets (this is easy to do with Atom).
- Delete
- Delete the brackets and comma
- Save file
- Restart Firefox and check the extensions. Acrobat should now be gone.
