In starting this message, I just want you to read the short excerpt at this link about William Booth. I must admit to having a chuckle as I read it! I’m sure each of us have had instances in our experience that highlight the fact that we can all be insensitive at times. The trouble… [Read more…]
“There are worse things than our final departure to the grave. One is the slow strangling death that surely comes to those who try to live by bread alone. For when we live by bread alone, we die by bread alone … Not that we immediately notice it, however. Modern culture is engineered to cover… [Read more…]
We use many expressions of time. We ‘pass’ the time, ‘spend’ time, ‘have not got enough’ time, and perhaps the worst phrase, ‘waste’ or ‘kill’ time. The young person never really looks at the amount of time he has been allotted. True we don’t know how long we will live, but we can be certain… [Read more…]
Lord, who may be a guest in your home? Who may live on your holy hill? 2 Whoever lives a blameless life, does what is right, and speaks honestly. 3 He does not slander, or do harm to others, or insult his neighbour. 4 He despises a reprobate, but honours the Lord’s loyal followers. He… [Read more…]

It seems that these days there is little peace in the world. The news is full of the ongoing strife that exists between one country and another and one ethnic group against the other. There is also the tragedy of recent earthquakes and Tsunamis that have caused profound suffering and need. Looking at life more locally here in the UK, murder and crime happen with an increasing frequency and the recession continues to take its toll on all our finances. Then we are reminded of our frailties as diseases like cancer continue to ravage homes indiscriminately and illnesses once thought eradicated such as rickets and tuberculosis appear with new vigour. There’s not enough time to talk about the break-up of families and marriages and the increasing strife between people.
